Criteria for Project Posts

As my students work their way toward substantive, persuasive communication using the new media, I am requiring they adhere to the following criteria in their individual project posts:

CONTENT REQUIREMENTS
  • Issue of contemporary relevance
  • Persuasive claim (argument-driven, not merely informative)
  • History component
  • Contemporary sources
    • Refers to authoritative popular media (such as TED talks)
    • Draws upon contemporary scholarship
  • Socially proofed
    • in early phases, by "homies" and peers to prove interest and relevance,
    • in later phases, by enthusiasts and experts who have a stake in the topics (and who are not friends or peers) -- to provide feedback, review, and sources.
  • Personal angle (The appeal to ethos must be very strong; establish your personality and connect the topic to your experience)
  • Connected to the core theme / project (connecting communication and civilization) by way of the group topics.
FORMAT REQUIREMENTS
  • Blog post + short video
  • Blog post
    • Must be well designed visually
    • Must follow principles for well structured posts (see "Better blogging")
  • Video
    • Must be personal (driven by interest in you, not just your topic)
    • Must be brief (1-2 minutes)
    • Complements / embedded in personal blog post
    • Complements / refers to group project

  1. I appreciate the criteria being listed in an easily accessible way! My question is how will the individual group projects tie into the whole class project? Also will it be presented in the same way as the individual groups? Finally, how will the format we are using gel with the formats used in Hybrid Pedagogy?

  2. I will be writing the Hybrid Pedagogy manuscript, which will refer and link to the group posts, which in turn will refer to individual project posts.
