In the words of the writer and researcher Brene Brown, "We are psychologically, emotionally, cognitively, and spiritually hardwired for connection, love, and belonging. Connection... is why we are here, and it is what gives purpose and meaning to our lives." Today, advancements in digital technologies have allowed people to connect and collaborate in new and meaningful ways. Our group aims to show how connection and collaboration have advanced in the digital age as well as address some important issues that have been raised with these new forms of human connection. We will do this through a series of four individual blog posts:

Digital Society E/Affects: Womanhood, Education, and Tolerance

Our digital society is made up of many parts, similar to a pie. Technology doesn’t just include social networking and funny YouTube videos, that is just the cherry on top. The real meat of it includes politics, education, co-collaboration, and overall social progress. We have chosen three parts of this pie that we feel passionate about and want to share with you in our short group video.

Building New Literacy in a New Age: Proposed Format

In periods of transition, many people naturally try to solve new problems in old ways.

They usually fail.

Literacy, in its traditional sense, is viewed as an important indicator of how well someone can function in society. Likewise, in the Age of Information, new literacy skills need to be developed. 

In our section of a larger class project, not only do we wish to show the need for these skills, but we also want to further develop them in ourselves. Multi-media platforms are an excellent way to spread information.

Patterns of the Past

Nathan Lambert: Identifying the specifics of how technology is actually making us more lost. Comparing our generation with the lost generation of World War I. In the video I illustrate the concept of how technology is supposed to help us find ourselves, while in reality it didn't help me because I was still lost.

Jonah Hainsworth: Identifying how advances in technology actually hurt us instead of helping us. He connects it to the discovery of new and "lazier" methods.
