Open vs. Controlled - An Example Video - V1

We decided to demonstrate an example of being open vs being controlled as it pertains to the MDS practice rooms. We briefly discuss what open vs. controlled means in the case of this limited resource, and why it's important for us to figure out a correct balance for both.

This second video is a more in depth look at how Bryce's and Rachelle's topics relate back to the example shown.

  1. I think this is an interesting argument. Sometimes I am not as careful as I should be when giving out my information on the internet while signing up for things on websites, or making a login account for some website that I will only use once. People can find that information and can use it to your disadvantage, even giving you a false identity.

  2. I like the real life example used in this video to introduce the topic. I'm curious to read more of your individual arguments. It is a simple way to introduce your topic that is memorable at the same time.

  3. There are three videos that try to teach internet security to kids that I thought might interest you (from BYU's animation department, no less!). They make parallel arguments to what you're doing, and may be useful.

  4. I have another resource for you. I was listening to the TED radio hour, and there was a show about trust (http://www.npr.org/programs/ted-radio-hour/406238794/trust-and-consequences?showDate=2015-05-15), and it discusses how the openness required for trust is basically the foundation of society, and one of the talks really hits this hard with how the internet has created more trust with its openness. The whole show (except maybe the last talk) would feed well into your topic. Here is the talk maybe most pertinent: http://www.npr.org/2015/05/15/406450298/how-can-trusting-strangers-fuel-an-economy . I hope it's helpful.
